Gumshen
Everything What We Recorded
itunes

Based out of Seattle, Washington, Gumshen is a band unlike any other. Their genre bending sound is on full display with their latest release, Everything What We Recorded. This compact album, at a run time of slightly over half an hour, shines like an exploding star amidst dull surroundings. This is a musical experience that should not be passed over.

Starting off this musically diverse and electrifying album, “Hammer and Nails” is just the perfect pop-rock song. It is so catchy and light with an upbeat melody that pulls you right in and takes you along for a fun musical trip. This is the type of song that will have you humming along while listening and will get stuck in your head for the rest of the day. “Too Much Good Times” has a more of a rock edge with a manic fervor that sets it apart from the pop-influenced sound of the opening track. It is another hot song to jam and sing along with. Next up is the epic “Jag It Up.” Clocking in at over eight minutes long, it is the heaviest song on the album with displays of creativity that will keep you coming back for multiple listens. There are influences from rock and funk to more progressive and spacey sounds that make it an all the more a satisfying experience.

With a name to get a smile or two, “Gooch Machine” comes out mesmerizing with its trippy and funky sound. At the halfway point of this album, it is clear that there is nothing quite like Gumshen out there. I think that you will love “That Gooch Machine” as much as these guys do. “Done” features a rocking guitar and makes great use of tempo shifts. It is hard to not pay attention to this song and it is perhaps the most captivating on the album. “Every Drop of Rain” gives off more of a love song vibe in the beginning with a tempo that is slower and mellower. Also, the vocals are less aggressive and energetic, while being more soothing and thoughtful. The latter part of the song does pick up and has more of a rock edge to it. This album truly offers a bit of everything. “Say What You Want” brings it home with another great sounding song that is sure to please. All in all, this album is about as perfect as one can get.

Gumshen’s Everything What We Recorded is an impeccable album with a fresh and revitalizing sound. It is a masterful mix of different genres that makes every song a distinct and engaging experience. Gumshen is an unforgettable band once it is experienced. Look for more amazing music from these guys in the future. Excuse me, while I go listen to this album again.
